Wakiso Beads began in 2008 when we visited Kampala, Uganda. While visitng a local orphanage, the caretakers showed us these beautiful necklaces that they made and sold to provide a small income. Seeing the potential for success in the States, we brought some home to sell. They were an instant favorite of the residents of Tennessee; thus, the business began to grow as a result of selling them at local craft fairs, through friends, and at the church.
Today, Wakiso Beads is thriving and is proud to support a community of women in the village of Wakiso. These women, once unemployeed and struggling to provide for their families, now have reliable source of income as they craft these simple, yet extravagant jewels of Uganda. Profits are used to buy more necklaces (for which we pay twice the asking price) and support orphan care.
Wakiso Beads goes “beyond relief” by creating sustainable jobs in the which women are empowered to take hold of their own lives and provide for their families. With Wakiso Beads you are truly making and impact. Dignity, work ethic, and excellence are all within reach when you buy from Wakiso Beads.
